Understanding Shutter Speeds

These two photos show my understand of Shutter Speed.
Slow Shutter Speed

ISO- 1600
Aperture-f/22.0
Shutter Speed-1/25

Fast Shutter Speed

ISO- 1600
Aperture- f/7.1
Shutter Speed- 1/250

When you look at her fingers you are able to see in the first picture they a blurry compared to the second picture where her fingers are clearly defined. This is because of shutter speed, which is the unit of measurement which determines how long the shutter remains open as the picture is taken. In the camera the shutter opens to let light through to the film or electronic sensor, and closes again to effect the quality of the photo. With a slow shutter speed the shutter is opened for a longer amount of time, meaning the motion in the photograph will be blurred. With a faster shutter speed the motion is frozen because the shutter closes quicker. The Exposure Triangle deals with light entering the camera and shutter speed controls how long the light is exposed.

Understanding Aperture

These two photos may be extremely random
but show a lot with understanding aperture.

 Small Depth of Field
ISO- 100
Aperture- f/5.6
Shutter Speed- 1/250

Large Depth of Field
ISO-1600
Aperture- f/36.0
Shutter Speed- 1/125

Measured in F-Stop, Aperture is the unit of measurement that defines the size of the opening in the lens that can be adjusted to control the amount of light reaching the digital sensor. In the camera aperture effects the size of the hole that lets light in. The larger the hole the more light gets in and the smaller the hole the less light. As for visually in the photograph when more light is allowed in, there is a smaller F-Stop meaning the photograph will have a blurry background and the subject in focus. When there is a higher F-Stop less light enters making the whole photograph in focus. The exposure triangle relates to light and how it enters the camera and aperture is the hole where light enters.

Themes Assignment = Me

For this shooting assignment I can admit I struggled a bit, it was a lot of thinking outside the box. Though that was one of the good parts too, this forced myself to be more creative. Also, really helped me highlight certain things that have meaning to me but often overlooked. I think the end result turned out well, even with a little struggle. My favorite photos (being good quality and meaning) would have to be any really with a childhood connection. An example being the tree house (memories), to some it's just a tree house but to me it holds memories, good and some bad. Whether it was a place to hang out or almost get attacked by a raccoon. This project was able to bring out my identify and shows it too. The pictures connect with experiences I have had growing up, which is what makes me, me.

Portrait Session with Emma

Emma Rose Clahane is here in this photography class to learn and create a good photograph. Her photographic dream is to go out and take pictures of nature doesn’t matter if it’s of the Northern Lights or even Negara Falls. As of right now she’s become a photography class model, for this assignment. Her photo shows how happy she always is and is always smiling throughout the day. Her happiness can be because she’s with friends or even by herself in her room watching some TV. Something else that makes Emma happy is when she goes out to eat to Olive Garden for dinner. Not all things can make her happy, like ysongswithout actual singing and her torso size, though these things can’t get rid of her smile. She loves her friends and her biggest phobia is their safety. If she were to have one super hero power it would be invisibility. This photography model is very outgoing and be prepared to listen because she rants a lot, which she believes is her greatest flaw. Another thing that bothers her is the fact that her hand tends to shake, she want to break this habit so bad. In ten years she plans on having an actual job being a teacher and not just a photography class model.
